Marks and Spencer has launched a six-part ad series starring Dawn French – and the 67 year old has been giving us all the partywear inspiration
After dazzling viewers in a subtly sparkly midi dress last week, Dawn French has done it again, wowing fashion fans in a sequin mini dress as she appears in another Marks and Spencer festive advent. And now, shoppers can copy her look for under £40.
The 67-year-old has starred alongside her fairy doppelganger in the second edition of the retailer’s six-part Christmas ad series. In the clip, the comedian can be seen finishing up her Christmas present wrapping, wearing the Lyocell Rich Sequin Mini Waisted Dress from the high street favourite.
Opting for a shorter hemline in the latest advert, the Vicar of Dibley star’s tiered mini dress is embellished with dainty sequins for a glamorous look. They glitter as they catch the light, but aren’t as bold as a fully sequinned number, making it perfect for the festive season, but equally doesn’t rule it out for year-round styling.

Coming in at £39.50, it has a waisted silhouette for a flattering shape with long sleeves and a round neckline. A row of buttons runs down the front, which can be worn buttoned to the top for a round neck finish, or slightly undone to give the illusion of a V-neck.
The dress can be easily styled, paired with heels and a glitzy bag and a red lip for an evening event, or with tights and boots for a more casual look. It’s available in sizes from 6-24 in the regular length, but also caters to shoppers of different heights with petite and tall options too.
The dress is yet to receive many reviews, as it’s relatively new to the retailer, but one customer who bought it has already given it a five star rating. They commented: “Bought petite as I’m short and it falls just above the knee. Darling little black ruffled dress. I just love it!”
However, mini dresses aren’t for everyone, and if that’s the case for you, Dawn’s Textured V-Neck Midi Relaxed Dress, from the previous advert, comes in at £45. Designed in a relaxed fit with a flattering v-neckline and ‘sophisticated’ half button placket, it falls into a tiered skirt, while gathering at the cuffs gives the long sleeves some volume for an on-trend silhouette. The dress has been lined for comfort and coverage, which makes it ideal for women of all ages.

Cat Deeley donned a sparkly mini dress from the retailer as she made a guest appearance on the final of ITV show Dress the Nation last month. Costing £45, Cat’s exact ensemble is the Sparkly V-Neck Mini Shift Dress that has a regular fit, a plunging neckline and a sleeveless shape.
