Manchester: Police attend scene after crash

Police are believed to have identified a suspect following the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in Manchester on Saturday morning.

Emergency services rushed to Mosley Street at around 10am yesterday after a Mercedes-Benz van collided with a Metrolink tram that was travelling through the city. The little girl was rushed to the hospital, but sadly died of her injuries.

It is understood the victim was hit by the van moments after it crashed into the tram and mounted the pavement. An investigation was launched and on Saturday afternoon, Greater Manchester Police launched an urgent manhunt for the van driver, who allegedly fled the scene.

According to a new update shared by the Manchester Evening News this evening, GMP has now identified a suspect. Flowers and touching messages have since been left at the scene where the young girl died, as well as on social media.

“My daughter is same age next month cant imagine what the family r going through. sat here in tears,” a person wrote. “My heart literally goes out to the family xx.”

“A very sad loss at such a tender young age,” said another. “She hadn’t even started life properly yet. Rest in peace with the Angels lovely and sending my thoughts and prayers to her poor Family.”

Previously, Assistant Chief Constable Stephanie Parker said: “Firstly, I would like to send my condolences to the family of the victim. This is a tragic incident where a young girl has sadly lost her life despite the responding officer’s best attempts to save her.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we are investigating a number of lines of enquiry. This is being treated as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.
