The man, aged in his 20s, died in the street moments after he left a nightclub in Manchester city centre and fell unconscious, with paramedics called to the scene in the early hours

A man fell ill and died on a street in Manchester city centre just moments after leaving a nightclub.

The man, aged in his 20s, is thought to have suffered a medical episode and fell unconscious in the early hours of Saturday.

Emergency services were called at around 5.45am, but despite their best efforts to revive the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Staff at a nearby nightclub are understood to have helped the man leave the venue shortly before closing time as he was feeling unwell. They then checked on him just before he died, reports Manchester Evening News.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Portland Street at around 5.45am yesterday.

“Upon their arrival, officers found a man aged in his 20s unconscious, and despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
