A man spent £600 on National Lottery Scratchcards, and he was floored by the events that unfolded. His winnings left him totally speechless after he splashed the cash
Lots of people try their luck by buying a Scratchcard every now and then, but sometimes people push the boat out by snapping up several at once to see what they can win. One man actually splurged £600 on National Lottery Scratchcards to see if he could rake in the cash.
A TikTok user, known as jax4154, carried out the experiment to try and get an idea if people really have a high chance of winning. He spent hundreds to carry out the important test, and it’s fair to say the experience left him speechless, as he couldn’t believe how much money he was left with.
It’s not the first time someone has talked about their Scratchcard winnings either. Just last year, a couple opened up about what it was like to bag £260,000.
Jax’s experience was a little different though, as he explained: “I’m about to scratch 120 Millionaire Maker Scratchards. Why do I do this? So you don’t have to.
“This particular Scratchcard I’ve bought, once I’ve scratched all of these, this will be number 700 in this series of Scratchcards I’ve bought, and the biggest win has been £100.”
Even though he admitted he’s heard tales of people bagging hefty prizes, he also expressed scepticism about the likelihood of such wins. He carried out the “scratch off” in a bid to demonstrate how harsh the reality can be when it comes to the allure of Scratchcards.
When he shared the results of his Scratchcard experiment, he revealed a clear contrast between his “loser pile” and “winner pile”. In the end, he was left with a total return of £385 from an initial outlay of £600, with his largest single win being £50.
He wanted to show how much people have the potential of losing when it comes to playing Scratchcards. He firmly believes people should “keep away” from them due to the high risk of losing a lot of money.
Naturally, his video attracted a lot of attention after he shared it. People had all sorts of thoughts to share.
One viewer said: “Well done. It’s a mug’s game.” Another wrote: “Scratchcards win ratio is about one in four. If you take away wins where you just get the Scratchcard cost back (like £5 win on £5 card), it drops to one in 20.”
It’s predicted the chances of winning on a £5 Scratchcard are roughly one in four. This includes cards that simply earn back their purchase price.
However, odds can vary across different games. For anyone who wants to know about the specifics, further details are usually found on the back of each Scratchcard.
In line with responsible gambling measures, the National Lottery website explains there is now a cap on buying Scratchcards. People can only purchase a maximum of 10 per transaction at any outlet offering National Lottery games.
