A man was thrilled when he found a Sony camcorder at a car boot sale, but was left stunned when he realised there was an old tape with it – and he couldn’t believe what was on it

It’s always fun going to a car boot sale to see if you can find some bargains and unique items. And one man could not believe what he discovered after purchasing an old camcorder. It led to a turn of events that resulted in an emotional reunion.

Kurt, 31, was chuffed to bits when he picked up a Song camcorder for £10 at a car boot sale. But the 31-year-old got more than he bargained for when he discovered a labelled tape in the bag reading ‘Shawn and Leigh in Kenya’.

Deciding to pop it into the camera and see what was on it, Kurt, who is from Abertillery in Wales, said: “What I found truly took me back to simpler times.”

Sharing his find on TikTok, he added: “Finding this footage has really amazed me. It could be 20-30 years old. Always loved watching these types of videos, never thought it would happen to me.”

One viewer mused: “Mad to think that these people could be alive or dead, the mystery behind someone’s story. so many questions few little answers.”

Others were touched by the discovery, with one saying: “Aw this is lovely.” Another chimed in: “This is so cool.” And another admitted: “I had this exact one.”

Another viewer commented: “That first clip is like something out of a movie.” While another said: “This is so cute. Someone’s treasured memories.”

And another added: “Back to simpler times.. when people were present, not glued to phones all day. We need to go back those days.”

In a heartwarming turn of events, Kurt revealed that he had discovered an hour’s worth of footage from 1993 on the stolen camera. The clips were so touching that he felt compelled to return them to their rightful owners.

Taking to social media for assistance, Kurt said: “I was hoping to visit the boot sale again to hopefully give this tape back or even if you could help me track them down would be much appreciated.”

To his astonishment, his strategy worked. He recounted: “Leigh had donated the camera to charity not knowing the tape was still in the bag. When her friend rang and told her to check Facebook she was so shocked.”

The friend reached out to the buyer on Facebook, revealing that she recognised the woman in the footage. Leigh, who is seen grinning and relishing her holiday in the video, then got in touch with Kurt to express her gratitude.

Kurt shared: “She had told me it unlocked memories that were sadly missed. I will be putting the footage on a USB stick for her so she can relive her favourite holiday and return the tape to her.”

Although the couple are no longer together, Kurt was delighted that the footage continues to bring Leigh joy and cherished memories.
