The victim was walking near to Casnfield High School in Wigan when he was attacked by two ‘out of control’ dogs with a woman, with his own pet dog also attacked

A man and his pet dog were savaged near to a school by two dogs which were “out of control” at the time, police have said.

The victims were walking near Cansfield High School in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, when “two large, grey dogs” of an unknown breed set on them. Now detectives have launched an investigation into the attack on the afternoon of April 4.

Police have urged any witnesses to come forward, revealing the dogs were under the control of a woman at the time. Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan West team said the man needed medical treatment for his injuries.

They said: “Police are investigating an offence of the owner of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury, on Cansfield Grove, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, at approximately 1535 hours on Thursday 4th April 2024. During this incident a male and a dog both received injuries requiring medical treatment, caused by two large grey dogs of unknown breed under the control of an adult female.”
