Warren “AKA” Lyttle has been named locally as the man who died after falling from the Braniel’s Eleventh Night bonfire in Belfast with tributes pouring in for him
A man has died in a tragic accident at a well-known bonfire.
The victim has been named locally as Warren “AKA” Lyttle. It’s understood that he fell from the Braniel’s Eleventh Night bonfire in the east of Belfast on Friday night.
In a statement on social media, Braniel Bonfire Committee, Braniel Loyal Flute Band and Braniel Community Group, said that they were “heartbroken by this tragic loss” and will go ahead with the bonfire tonight due to the wish of his family.
: “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of our friend, Warren “AKA” Lyttle, following last night’s tragic accident at the Braniel Bonfire.
“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with Warren’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him at this incredibly difficult time. As a community, we are heartbroken by this tragic loss and ask that everyone keeps his loved ones in their prayers in the days and weeks ahead.”
They added: “Following discussions with Warren’s family, they have expressed their wish for the bonfire to proceed as planned. After careful consideration, we have decided to honour their request.
“The bonfire will be lit at 9pm on Saturday 11th July. We respectfully ask everyone attending to join us in observing a minute’s silence in Warren’s memory before the bonfire is lit. We also ask that, once the bonfire has been lit, everyone pays their respects by dispersing quietly and respectfully afterwards.
“We would ask all those attending to show dignity, compassion and respect for Warren’s family and friends throughout the evening. May Warren rest in peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in the love and support of those around them.”
A spokesperson for Dundela Social Club, reported BelfastLive, added: “The Staff, Committee, and everyone at Dundela Social Club would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Warren Lyttle (AKA), on his passing.
“Aka was a familiar face around the club and will be sadly missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him at this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Aka.”
