A man has been charged with the kidnap and sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl allegedly snatched from her family outside Harrods department store.

Robert Prussak, 56, is also charged with administering a substance with the intention of “stupefying or overpowering” her to enable sexual activity.

Metropolitan Police said he was charged today after his arrest on Monday, following reports of a missing child in the Knightsbridge area of West London. Police attended on Brompton Road, Prussak was identified on CCTV images and later arrested.

The suspect, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today. He was further remanded to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 22 May.

The child, who cannot be identified as the alleged victim of a sexual offence, became separated from her family at around 2.45pm on Monday on Brompton Road, which links Knightsbridge to the South Kensington area of the capital.

Harrods had told the Mirror: “We supported the Metropolitan police with an incident outside Harrods that has now thankfully been resolved. We cannot comment any further on the details as it is a police matter, but are thankful the Met Police’s swift actions led to this safe resolution.”
