A man has been accused of breaking into a farm and having sex with a Shetland pony.

Damion Ogeare, 43, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court, Wiltshire, for a plea and trial preparation hearing. He spoke only to confirm his name. The case was adjourned to allow him more time to seek advice on legal aid – so he did not formally accept or deny the offence.

The alleged offences took place at Maylands Farm in Trowbridge, Wiltsshire, on January 24 last year. Ogeare is accused of breaking into a stables containing two Shetland ponies and having sex with a female mare, called Cassieopia Wooley.

It is alleged that CCTV footage captured Ogeare, from Trowbridge, arriving at the farm, before leaving 10 minutes later. “This defendant stands charged in relation to two offences,” Christina Norgan told an earlier hearing at the Magistrate court.

Ogeare will next appear at Salisbury Crown Court on February 27. He previously denied one count of sexual penetration with a living animal, and one of recklessly trespassing on premises with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence.

The accused, who arrived to court wearing a black coat and sherpa hat, did not enter a formal plea today as the hearing was adjourned.
