The latest recall comes just a few weeks after Unilever had to recall Magnum Classic Ice Cream Sticks – this recall was also due to the possible presence of pieces of metal

More Magnum ice creams have been recalled as there is a risk they may contain shards of metal and plastic.

The recall notice was issued by the Food Standards Agency this week noting that the products were “unsafe to eat”. The product affected is the Magnum Almond Ice Cream Sticks three pack which are sold in both the UK and Ireland. The Foods Standard Agency has urged those who have bought the product to “not eat” it but instead follow the advice from Unilver – the Magnum brand owner.

The latest recall comes just a few weeks after Unilever had to recall Magnum Classic Ice Cream Sticks. This recall was also due to the possible presence of pieces of metal.

The Magnum Almond Ice Cream sticks affected by the recall contain three 100ml ice creams and have the batch codes L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341, L3342. They also have the best-before date of December 2025 (12/25). You can check your ice cream’s best-before date and batch code on the side of the box.

Unilever confirmed that no other Magnum products were affected by the recall. In a statement, the company said: “The safety of the people that buy and use our products is always our number one priority which is why we are recalling these products. No other Magnum products are affected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.”

If you have purchased one, you should contact the Unilever care team for further guidance. You can call the careline number on 0800 146 252 or email them at: ukicare@unilever.corn.

What are recall notices?

Products can be recalled for a range of different reasons including safety – if a product displays risks for the customer – or quality – when the product isn’t working as it should be. The Food Standards Agency is in charge of issuing alerts when there is a problem with food and the product can either be “withdrawn” or “recalled”.

When it is withdrawn it is taken off the shelves and when something is “recalled” customers are simply asked to return the item. Food products need to be recalled if they are found to have been contaminated with pathogens that could cause food poisoning, or if plastic or metal has been found in the product due to manufacturing faults. Food items also need to be recalled if any allergen information is missing or incorrect.
