Fans of Mrs Hinch are raving about a 37p ‘magic’ item that lifts stubborn toilet stains in no time. The cleaning enthusiasts have also warned a popular cleaning product might be making things worse

Nobody likes scrubbing the loo – but a common cleaning product might actually be making things worse.

Whilst spending hours and hours cleaning the bog is nobody’s idea of fun, neither is welcoming guests to a bog riddled with unsightly stains. Yellowing toilet seats can be a result of urine (husbands with bad aim, we’re looking at you), a build-up of limescale, and even the fumes of cleaning products themselves.

Luckily, fans of cleaning ace Mrs Hinch have hailed a 37p item that will lift those stubborn stains without breaking the bank. Plus, there’s no need for hours of elbow grease.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman asked for advice after her six-month-old toilet seat was already tarnished with yellow marks. “There are stains already under the seat despite cleaning three to four times a week,” she said.

The cleaning enthusiast added that white vinegar wasn’t doing ‘anything’ and asked whether bleach was necessary to shift the stains. However, many users warned that bleach could actually be causing the stains in the first place.

“Don’t put bleach down the pan then close the lid, the fumes cause stains,” one person wrote. Another agreed, commenting: “The bleach fumes make the underseat/lid go yellow.”

In fact, swathes of members recommended ditching bleach for Magic Erasers – a sponge made from melamine foam that is designed to wipe off a whole host of stains, from oil to coffee. “My new go-to product is a magic eraser,” one person raved, “[It] is brilliant on stains.”

Another wrote: “Magic erasers! I use them all the time and [they’re] like new every time.” A third added: “Magic eraser, cut them up into small pieces and throw away once used. Was the only thing that worked for me, I tried all of the natural methods.” While a fourth branded the product as ‘game-changing’, claiming the stains will go ‘in seconds’.

You can pick up magic erasers from a slew of supermarkets and online retailers including Homebase, which is currently selling a pack of four for £1.50. Amazon currently has the highly-reviewed products on sale, meaning a 10 pack will only set you back £4.98 if you act quickly.
