The M6 in Cumbria has been closed northbound between junction 42 and junction 43. A driver of a light goods vehicle had a “medical episode” and an air ambulance had to land, National Highways said.

Cumbria Police, Ambulance and the Air Ambulance were alerted to the incident and traffic was held southbound to assist the emergency services working at the scene.

National Highways said: “A full closure is in place northbound while Cumbria Police remain at the scene and have confirmed investigation work will not be required. They are hoping to reopen the northbound carriageway soon. “
