The full statement from National Highways reads: “There are delays of over an hour and a half on the M25 anti-clockwise in Essex. This is due to emergency road surface repairs which have closed lanes 1 and 2 (of 3) within J27.
“As a result of these works, the link road from the M11 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise at J27 is also closed.
“Contractors have been on site overnight carrying out repairs, however an additional defect has been discovered this morning and as such, the lane closures remain in place to allow for further repairs to take place.
“There is not yet an estimated time for the works to be complete.
“If this impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time as is 11 miles of congestion on approach to the lane closures. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
