Several firefighters have reportedly been rushed to hospital after they were injured in a collision between two fire engines.

The shock incident happened on Farringdon road in central London with injuries including broken bones as well as chest and head injuries.

A fire engine from Lambeth and a turntable ladder appliance from Soho, both operated by London Fire Brigade, collided with police and medics rushing to the scene.

The junction at the site of the incident was blocked in all directions while emergency crews rushed to aid the stricken firefighters.

All the injured fire crew members are receiving medical treatment. Both fire appliances involved in the collision, which happened at around at around 10.14pm on Saturday, January 3, were severely damaged and had to be removed from the scene.

Crews from London Ambulance Service attended the scene, while police closed off roads around the crash site and diverted traffic.
