Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have revealed four people were saved from underneath the car in Liverpool – including a child – by crews who lifted the vehicle off of them all
Fire crews scrambled to save four people – including a child – trapped under the car following the Liverpool parade horror last night.
Firefighters managed to heave the vehicle off the group in the city centre following the collision, which police described as “a major incident”. Speaking at a press conference late on Monday, Nick Searle, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service chief fire officer said: “We immediately mobilised three fire engines to Water Street and were in attendance in four minutes.
“On arrival, the crews were met with numerous injured… and four persons trapped under a vehicle. Our crews rapidly lifted the vehicle, removed three adults and one child from beneath and passed them to our ambulance service colleagues.
“We then worked with emergency service partners to ensure casualties received medical treatment and transport to hospital as quickly as possible. My fire crews will maintain a visible and reassuring presence in the coming days and weeks.”
Four people, including a child, havve suffered serious injuries, Merseyside Police confirmed. A 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area has been arrested, the force added.

Emergency services were called to the centre of the city as Liverpool’s victory parade was interrupted by the horror incident. Around 800,000 supporters had packed the streets to celebrate with the team on an open-top bus, but the celebrations turned to horror when a car ploughed into fans on Water Street, before coming to a halt. During a press conference this evening police have given an update on those hurt during the horror.
Twenty seven people were hurt in the horror. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said in the press conference: “I want to thank all of the emergency services, partner agencies and members of the public who came to the assistance of the injured following this evening’s shocking incident, which we declared a major incident.
“This had been a joyous day in Liverpool with hundreds of thousands of people lining the streets to celebrate Liverpool Football Club’s victory parade.
“A number of people have been injured and were taken to hospital. In addition, a large number of people of all ages were treated at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.”
Merseyside Police earlier confirmed a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested. Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.
David Kitchin, of North West Ambulance Service, said: “We can confirm our teams treated 20 patients at the scene for minor injuries, and these did not need hospital treatment.
“Twenty-seven patients in total were taken to hospital by ambulance, and we believe two of those, including one of the children, have sustained serious injuries.”
Liverpool said earlier this evening: “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”
