The product is available to buy on Amazon and has more than 35,000 customer reviews

An unlikely anti-ageing product is one of the most bought on Amazon, and it’s probably not what you had in mind. Frownies Anti-Wrinkle Patches are described as ‘wrinkle smoothers’, and work to lessen the appearance of fine lines.

Frownies are a simple, non-invasive method used to reduce wrinkles around your forehead, as well as crow’s feet. You get 144 patches in a box for £29.95.

They can be used either in the daytime or at night and are meant to be kept on for a minimum of three hours. The entirety of the wrinkle must be covered by the patch in order for it to work.

Boots’ Mother’s Day beauty box is worth £276.50 but you can get it for £55

As mentioned, Frownies Anti-Wrinkle Patches are tremendously popular with Amazon shoppers. The patches have more than 35,000 customer reviews, and more than 1,000 boxes have been snapped up in the past month alone.

They are made from natural, unbleached kraft paper and a starch-based adhesive. They are latex, silicon and paraben free.

One shopper rated the patches five stars, leaving a detailed review: “I’ve tried a lot of options, but this one works best for me so far. After using it, I look like I’ve just had Botox.?? My forehead feels firmer and softer, and it actually makes a difference.

“The glue is gentle on the skin, stays in place overnight, and doesn’t cause any damage when you remove it in the morning. That said, keep in mind I’m 29, so I don’t have deep wrinkles or mimic lines, and I have been getting Botox since I was 26.

“This product works more on muscle tension, or that fatigue look you have.” They did have one gripe, adding: “However, the smell is awful. I went to bed wearing these, and my husband asked if I forgot to take a bath.

“I found out it’s because they’re made from natural starches to help them stick to your skin. I asked it on TikTok and found out you can apply them with rose water or add a bit of essential oil once they’re dry to help. Once it is dry the smell is not too horrible but it is still BAD.

“If you have a big forehead, you will use a lot of patches, so it might not be economical. I have a small forehead and I use three patches, one diamond and 2 triangles. I can tell you this works, but it is expensive.”

A second customer wrote: “I like these. Sure, they can’t compete with Botox, but Botox is too expensive and too short term.

“Frownies keep the lines from getting too pronounced and there is a brain training thing going on. It’s uncomfortable to frown so you learn not too while wearing them. They are expensive though for what they are, which to me seems to be the sticky/lick-down part of a brown envelope!!!”

A third also liked the patches but issued a word of warning about the small, writing: “Although the patches are perforated between each one, I still needed to use scissors. Also, they do smell; I think it’s the glue.

“Overall, they are easy to apply and remove. They are well worth the money.”

A fourth buyer simply said: “They do as they say on the box. Would recommend.”

Alternatively, Boots also has thousands of anti-ageing lotions and potions including L’Oreal’s Revitalift Filler 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum for £31.99. It promises to intensely hydrate skin, smooth and re-plump wrinkles.

Over at Fenwick, you can buy this Goldfaden MD Needle-Less Line Smoothing Concentrate for £100. It’s a non-invasive solution to reduce the appearance of fine line depth.
