Lidl has published its 2025 site requirements brochure, outlining hundreds of potential locations for new stores – including high streets, retail parks, and mixed-use town centre sites

Lidl has revealed its latest “wish list” of hundreds of locations where it wants to open new stores – and is on track to open 40 new branches this financial year. The discount supermarket today announced plans to invest half a billion pounds in its expansion.

Lidl has published its 2025 site requirements brochure, outlining hundreds of potential locations for new stores – including high streets, retail parks, and mixed-use town centre sites. The updated list features locations across England, Scotland and Wales. You can see all the locations in the Lidl brochure which has been published online.

This year will see the completion of the expansion of Lidl’s Belvedere Regional Distribution Centre, which has more than doubled in size. The discounter is also set to start construction on a brand-new distribution centre in Leeds later in the year.

Richard Taylor, Chief Real Estate Officer at Lidl GB, said: “This level of investment is a clear sign of our ambition. As we enter our fourth decade in Great Britain and hurtle towards a thousand stores, there are still so many parts of the country crying out for convenient access to a Lidl store.

“That’s why we welcome the measures proposed in the Government’s Planning and Infrastructure Bill – they recognise the urgent need to remove barriers to development and support the kind of growth we at Lidl are working towards.”

“Our latest site requirements brochure reinforces the scale of our ambition for the future. New Lidl stores mean new jobs, new opportunities for British suppliers, and continued investment into local economies. We’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing supermarkets in the country, and with this investment, we’re taking another big step in our journey.”

It comes after Lidl opened four brand new locations in Canning Town, Preston, Walsall, and Wombourne back in February. During the same month, Lidl opened five upgraded stores in Blantyre, Cwmbran, Oldbrook, Wells, and West Ealing.

The upgraded stores have bigger sales areas and modern amenities, which provide more space for shoppers and a much wider selection of products. Lidl also opened ten new stores in December, including Bovey Tracey, Hemel Hempstead, and Ipswich, in the run-up to Christmas.

The new stores are part of Lidl’s plan to have 1,100 UK stores by the end of 2025. During the Christmas 2024 period, Lidl saw nearly two million more customers compared to the year before, with sales for the festive period rising 7% year-on-year – exceeding £1billion for the first time.

Lidl also recently became the first supermarket to introduce Pennies, a digital micro-donation system where shoppers can give money to the NSPCC charity. The software allows customers to donate up to 30p per transaction at the card reader.

This move is part of Lidl’s fundraising efforts for the NSPCC, having recently extended its partnership with the charity by five years. The discounter aims to raise £5million by 2030 to support the NSPCC’s vital Childline service.
