A number of popular items have been recalled from customers this week

A series of food and product recall alerts have been issued this week as customers have been urged to take action. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued two recall notices for popular products.

Children’s drinks have been recalled, as well as ice cream from Lidl. The supermarket has said the item could pose a risk to certain customers.

Meanwhile, the Office for Product Safety and Standards has shared a recall notice for viral toys. They pose a “serious chemical risk” as parents have been urged to make vital checks over where they are being purchased from.

Lidl ice cream

Lidl’s 1001 Delights Dubai Style Pistachio Ice Cream has been recalled from customers due to an allergy risk, as it contains cashews (nuts), which are not declared on the label.

The recall is for Northern Ireland and Ireland only. Lidl’s affected ice cream comes in a 300g pack size and has a best-before date of December 8, 2027.

The FSA said: “This product contains cashew (nuts), making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to cashews. Lidl are recalling the above product.”

It advised: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund.”

Lidl’s notice said: “If you have purchased the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to cashews, we advise you not to consume it. Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.”

The supermarket added: “Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our customer services team.” For the Republic of Ireland, call 019203010, and for Northern Ireland, call 0289568488.

Capri-Sun

Popular children’s drink Capri-Sun UK Limited has recalled specific batches of Capri-Sun Orange because some multipacks contain pouches incorrectly labelled as Capri-Sun Orange Zero.

The pouches contain regular Capri-Sun Orange with the normal sugar level for that product, as correctly stated on the multipack, not Capri Sun Zero. This makes the product a potential risk to consumers who need to manage their sugar intake.

The details for this product recall, which is Northern Ireland specific, are as follows:

  • Pack size: 10 x 200ml
  • Batch code: L104 L105 L106
  • Best before: April 1, 2027

If you have the affected items and you’re dependent on sugar content, don’t drink them. Instead, you should return the product to the retailer, where you’ll be able to get a full refund. No receipt is needed.

Viral toy

The OPSS has issued a recall notice for unbranded popular squeezy toys. ‘Squeezy Dumplings’ are popular sensory toys shaped like bao buns, usually found in small bamboo steamer baskets.

However, some unbranded batches have dangerously high levels of benzene, which can cause irritation to the eyes, nose and throat. A number of the toys have been recalled due to the chemical risk from Samsons Cash and Carry Ltd.

Trading Standards has confiscated unbranded or imitation squeezy dumplings due to the presence of dangerous chemicals and their non-compliance with essential toy safety regulations.

It has been recommended to buy the toys from reputable retailers as they adhere to UK safety standards. Official ‘Squishy Dumpling’ toys are stocked by several major UK retailers like The Entertainer, Smyths Toys, B&M and The Range, with prices generally starting at £4.99.

Which? says that parents should be able to find the clear ‘CE’ or ‘UKCA’ logo on the toys, as these only appear on items that have passed safety assessments.
