The model has a 14-inch screen, a lightweight design and a 13.5 hour battery life

University students or parents of schoolchildren looking for an affordable laptop for coursework and leisure can make considerable savings on a Lenovo Chromebook. In an unexpected Amazon offer, the IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook is currently on sale with a significant price drop.

Typically, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook retails for £249.99, but has been reduced in a flash deal to £149 (£100.99 off). Amazon states that the laptop sale will end on March 3, and that the deal is ‘selling fast’.

Available in an abyss blue colourway, the model features 64GB of memory and a 14-inch screen. Other features include 13.5 hours of battery life, front-facing speakers ideal for online lessons, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

It’s also lightweight, weighing 1.3 kg and 18.6mm in width, so it’s thin enough to easily fit into a rucksack or handbag without taking up a large amount of space. Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook has an overall Amazon customer rating of 4.4, and more than 200 have been bought in the past month.

Elsewhere, Very has a deal on a HP 15-inch laptop, now £239, originally £299. It weighs 1.59 kg, has a 10.5-hour battery life, and 8GB of memory.

Returning to Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook, it has more than 700 Amazon reviews, many of which have praised its easy use and setup. One user left a detailed review, stating: “Great value at around £139: This Chromebook offers solid functionality and elegance at a highly competitive price, making it an outstanding choice for students, casual users, or anyone prioritising portability and simplicity.”

They added: “In short, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook offers exceptional everyday usability in a sleek and affordable package. Highly recommended!”

Another shopper bought it for their son, writing: “Bought to support my child with their GCSE homework. However, they are also using it to play games and browse the internet. Good-sized screen, easy set-up as I am a technophobe (so had to be). My child thinks it’s great. well worth the money at such a cheap alternative to a laptop to do the exact same thing.”

Not all consumers were as pleased, with one noting downsides to the charger adaptor’s weight. They explained: “The laptop is lovely and light, but when carrying the charger Adaptor, it becomes heavier for me to carry on aeroplanes as an elderly person. Shame they couldn’t make the AC Adapter lighter.”

A fourth user reported a happier experience, saying: “Good quality and well-made Chromebook. Didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Great battery life and quick and responsive performance.”

One person praised the device’s speedy set-up time, writing: “So easy to set up, took me all of 15 minutes from start to finish, can run multiple things at the same time, can have several windows open and run a Zoom meeting and screen share with no issues. As I have never owned a Chromebook before, I found it weird, but after half an hour, I have got the hang of it. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone.”

A final user remarked: “Bought this for my youngest son for Christmas, and he loves it! Good quality for the money and quick and easy to set up. The battery life on it is pretty good, too, considering how much my son is on it.”
