King Charles and Prince William could be on the verge of a row over a proposed new slurry pit which would lie less than a few miles from the latter’s Anmer Hall
King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate could be on the verge of a row over the proposed position of a new slurry pit on the Sandringham estate.
The pit, reportedly capable of holding more than two million gallons of manure, is said to be close to William’s Grade II-listed mansion, Anmer Hall, according to planning documents from King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council.
William’s Georgian home, given to him by the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift, lies just under a mile from the proposed pit.
The new facility would cover an area of 86 by 46 metres and hold up to 2,160,538 gallons of slurry.
Although the pit has yet to receive approval, locals have expressed concern over the potential impact. One resident told the Daily Mail: “Everyone is worried it will create a massive stink.
“Goodness knows what William and Kate think about it. It is a bit ironic that the landowner responsible for the plans is William’s father, the King.”
Alongside neighbours, local councillors have also raised objections. County councillor Stuart Dark suggested the pit could either be rejected or granted approval with strict conditions attached.
The debate comes just weeks after it was announced that the disgraced royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to move to the estate.
Andrew, whose royal titles were stripped earlier this year, will relocate after leaving his long-term home at Royal Lodge.
Speaking to the Mirror, royal author Andrew Lownie said Andrew’s move represents a practical solution after years of scandal surrounding the former prince’s relationship with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
“I understand that Andrew will have to be paid quite a lot of money to basically get out of the lease,” Lownie said.
“One has to be practical. This was the only way to get him out, and it’s not taxpayer money that’s being spent; that’s up to Charles. I think it has lanced the boil and averted what was turning out to be a major crisis, so I can understand why he has done it.”
