Heiress turned killer mum Constance Marten has landed a prison job far from her former life of wealth and luxury
Killer mum Constance Marten has been mocked by fellow inmates as the ex-socialite reportedly lands herself a new job behind bars.
Marten, the daughter of an aristocrat, and her boyfriend Mark Gordon were jailed for 14 years for the gross negligence manslaughter of their newborn daughter, while they went on the run. The couple had vanished to avoid dealing with social services, after their first four children together had previously been taken into care.
Now, the former socialite has landed herself a job at the infamous HMP Bronzefield – where killer nurse Lucy Letby and Sara Sharif’s murderer Beinash Batool are also held – and an ironic nickname.

The 39-year-old is reportedly working as a unit cleaner at the Ashford, Surrey, prison. Marten has allegedly been taunted by other inmates over her apparent £20 per week role.
Marten’s supposed job involves her washing, sweeping and mopping the floors on Unit 4 of the infamous women’s prison. A source, according to The Sun, claimed the baby killer has been dubbed “the poshest Mrs Mop in the country”.
The source said: “A lot of the other inmates find Constance’s job pretty funny – and she is getting quite a bit of stick from the other women because of her background. They all know she grew up in luxury with chefs and cleaners running around after her – and now she is the one with a mop in her hand. They are calling her the poshest Mrs Mop in the country and having a good laugh at her.
“She is getting a bit of name-calling with lags referring to her as ‘Mrs Mop’ and ‘Constance the cleaner’ – but it is nothing too bad.” Despite this, the source claimed Marten previously turned down other jobs in the prison and had “kept her head down and stayed in her cell as much as possible”.
Marten was born in 1986 to father Napier and his wife, Virginie De Selliers. The killer grew up with her brothers on the 5,000-acre Crichel estate in Dorset, where where she previously recalled enjoying “naked picnics, siestas amid [hay bales], and tractor scoops”.
Her father Napier, who was a page to the late Queen Elizabeth II, had been heir to a £115million fortune. Despite this, Napier left his family and his inheritance behind when he travelled to Australia in 1996 after having an “awakening” over his materialistic life, when Marten was nine years old. He later returned to the UK to work as a tree surgeon.
After the heiress vanished with her partner and baby, she was eventually found scavenging in bins for food, a far cry from the mansion she grew up in and luxuries she enjoyed.
Marten met Gordon in a Tottenham incense shop in 2014, and married at an unofficial ceremony in Peru, which was not recognised by the UK government.
