Pupils from Hornsea Community Primary School in East Yorkshire were attending the nearby United Reformed Church for a harvest festival singalong when “utter filth” appeared instead of projected lyrics

Children as young as six were exposed to “utter filth” when an x-rated image was shown instead of lyrics on a church’s big screen.

Pupils from Hornsea Community Primary School in East Yorkshire were attending the nearby United Reformed Church for a harvest festival singalong. Lyrics to one of the tunes was allegedly swapped with the pornographic images.

A parent who asked to remain anonymous reportedly said: “One minute the children are singing We Plough The Fields And Scatter, the next the church is showing the pupils utter filth. The six and seven year olds were gobsmacked and didn’t know where to look.”

Teachers raced towards the laptop projecting the images in a desperate attempt to minimise the damage caused. Parents received letters from staff at the 500-pupil school. They also called in council safeguarding staff to help in the event of the children being distressed.

In the letter, that was sent on the day of the incident, the children had been reading the lyrics on the screen – which was operated by church volunteers – when the “inappropriate content” appeared. They added that it had only been up for “a few seconds”, and that they were unsure if the kids had realised what had happened. The church has been contacted by the school’s safeguarding chief to deal with the incident.

Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “We have been made aware of the incident within the church.

“The school informed families the same day and will not be using the church until we can be reassured that this cannot happen again. The church are conducting their own enquiries into the incident.”

One of the elders at the United Reformed Church told The Sun: “There’s nothing to defend here. We will just let the process take its course. It’s in the hands of the professionals.”
