A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing at Kennington tube station left two people in hospital.

The suspect has also been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. Officers were called to the station at around 10.30pm following reports of a man being stabbed on the northbound platform

A second man was also believed to be injured after stepping in to try and prevent the attack. A member of the public later reported being groped as the suspect fled the station.

Police and ambulance crews attended the scene, and the victims, two men in their 40’s, were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

British Transport Police Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Paul Attwell said: “This has understandably been a worrying time for the travelling public and our officers have been working around the clock to investigate. Extensive lines of enquiry have been followed and a man has now been arrested in connection with this incident. We are not looking for anyone else at this time. Our enhanced high-visibility patrols will continue in the area to reassure the travelling public this Bank Holiday weekend.”
