Prince William and Kate Middleton famously first met at St Andrews University, where love blossomed. And since then, the Princess has dedicated her life to making William happy, according to an expert

The Princess of Wales “saved” Prince William after his “dysfunctional” childhood and has dedicated her life to making him happy, a royal expert has stated.

The royal couple famously met when they were both students at St Andrews university, and started off as friends before romance blossomed. They have now been married for more than a decade and are proud parents to three children, George, Charlotte, and little Louis. Royal author Angela Levin reflected on their relationship during an appearance on True Royalty TV ‘s Royal Beat, saying: “I think that Kate has helped save William. I think it was very difficult for him coming out of a dysfunctional family, losing his mum so young and I think he was in a very difficult place.”

Angela further stated that Kate has worked hard to support William in his royal work – and has also helped him work out his identity. She said: “She has really encouraged him. Her whole life is to make him happy, I think. She found things that really make him feel important and worthy rather than just going to cut ribbons. I think she has helped him to be a husband by introducing him to her own family a lot and spending time with a normal family and being a dad.”

Kate is known to be extremely close with her parents, Michael and Carole, who are thought to have offered the whole family comfort and stability during her recent health battle. And William’s bond with the Middletons has also only grown stronger. Royal commentator and biographer Duncan Larcombe previously told the Mirror that William has become ‘like an adopted son’ to Carole and Michael.

He said, ‘One of the things that has clearly strengthened William and Kate’s relationship from the beginning was the fact that Kate came from a very tight-knit family. It is something that he has kind of lacked in his life, obviously losing his mother. So it is only natural [Carole and Michael] will step into the breach and support [the Waleses] throughout this in every way. The Middletons are the perfect antidote really to the pomp and pageantry of the Royal Family, because they are quite an ordinary family unit, which will be important to help aid Kate’s recovery.’

William and Kate met for the first time in 2001 at St Andrews University, where they enrolled on the same course and lived in the same halls. And it was Kate’s now legendary appearance in a charity fashion show in March 2002 that famously kicked off their romance. William reportedly paid £220 for a front row ticket for the catwalk event – and just as well, because 19-year-old Kate came sashaying down the runway wearing nothing but a sheer stocking dress over black underwear. As she strutted her way past the prince, William is said to have turned to his friend Fergus Boyd and whispered: “Wow, Fergus, Kate’s hot!”

But Kate’s cool head prevailed – and she let her prince do all the chasing. Royal reporter Simon Vigar said: “When they were at university at St Andrews, I have it on good authority that one of the few girls not chasing William or trying to catch his eye was Catherine. If that’s true, she played an absolute blinder. He was definitely the target of lots of Sloaney girls there at university, but it wasn’t until the infamous fashion show that William noticed Catherine.”
