This year’s much-anticipated ad is finally out featuring a heartwarming story of two sisters – and many of the items seen in the film are now available to buy in stores and online

For many people, it officially marks the start of Christmas – John Lewis has finally brought out its 2024 festive ad.

Called The Gifting Hour, the two-minute film focuses on a woman called Sally’s quest for the perfect present for her younger sister, Lauren. Frantic Sally visits the flagship store, on London’s Oxford Street, 15 minutes before closing time – but as she browses a rack of dresses she enters a wardrobe that takes her back to her childhood home and through her memories with her sister.

Franki Goodwin, chief creative officer at Saatchi & Saatchi who created the advert, said: “We’ve all been there – time’s running out, and you’re still looking for the perfect gift for someone in your life who’s impossible to shop for. That’s why I believe viewers will truly connect with our heroine – as she dives into a rack of dresses, exploring her memories in search of that special gift. The Gifting Hour is a glorious visual and emotional feast which is both grown-up and childlike at the same time.”

And if you’re searching for the perfect gift for someone special, look no further as many of the items featured in the advert are now available to buy in John Lewis stores and online. These include the brown wool jumper and the leather trousers worn by Sally in the video as well as two of the party dresses she flips through that are on the magical rail.

Other products available for purchase include the maternity dress worn by Lauren in the scene where she is about to go into labour while playing a festive game, a retro lava lamp seen in the home and the teddy bear a teenage Lauren throws at Sally to get her out of her bedroom.

There’s also festive wrapping to finish off your perfect gift and a nostalgic cassette bauble referencing the scenes from the 1990s available to hang on the Christmas tree.

Starring Dawn French, the advert highlights the selection of festive food on offer at the retailer for Christmas – but it’s the comedian’s outfit fashion fans have been eyeing up.

In the first of a six-part ad series, which launched today, an exhausted French finds herself already hum-bugging over festivities, until her fairy friend steps in to help transform her home, and her outfit into something more party appropriate. In the blink of an eye, The 67-year-old goes from wearing a pair of checked pyjamas, to a glitzy dress fit for a Christmas party.
