In his new role, Jim will oversee capital formation efforts for DealPoint Merrill’s Capital Markets Group. With extensive experience in capital formation, underwriting, and due diligence, Jim will collaborate with real estate investors and investment advisers to attract funding for infill projects. His work will primarily focus on climate-controlled storage facilities and the strategic repurposing of shopping centers affected by shifting retail trends.
Jim brings over 40 years of experience in the financial services industry, having facilitated more than $4 billion in capital formation and deployment. Known for his ability to demystify complex investment products, Jim has led syndicates employing debt, equity, and hybrid investment structures across a range of organizations, from emerging growth companies to investment-grade firms. He holds FINRA Series 7, 22, 24, 39, 63, and SIE securities licenses and has served as a keynote speaker at numerous broker-dealer conferences.
Throughout his career, Jim has been instrumental in securing over $6 billion in capital investments. His expertise spans syndicate development for public and private securities offerings, institutional partnerships, and high-net-worth investor engagement, both domestically and internationally. He has also negotiated more than 1,000 selling agreements, underwritten various portfolios, and conducted independent due diligence reporting for alternative investment offerings, including REITs, 1031 Exchanges, and energy investments.
Jim is an active member of compliance and due diligence committees and has developed FINRA-reviewed educational materials on 1031 Exchanges and REITs. He earned an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Michigan Technological University. Jim also serves on MTU’s entrepreneurial board, mentoring students on monetization strategies for new technologies, continues as a graduate mentor for UC Berkeley students, and was an adjunct professor at Dominican University of California.
