Security firm GEOAmey said Cooper managed to make his escape after he “overpowered” staff as they escorted him to a court appearance after faking an “on-board medical emergency”

Shock new footage has captured the moment escaped prisoner Jamie Cooper sprinted through fields minutes after ditching his prison van.

A video obtained by the BBC shows what is believed to be Cooper running through fields in what an eyewitness said was a “surreal” sight.

Police launched a manhunt for Cooper this week after he reportedly faked distress and jumped out of a prison van while en route to a magistrate’s court.

He was being escorted to Lancaster Magistrates’ Court in a GEOAmey-owned prison van on Wednesday morning when he tricked security personnel into thinking he was in an “on-board medical emergency”.

He was then able to “overpower” officers after the van was forced to pull over at Junction 2 of the M55 near Catforth, Preston.

The security service said in a statement: “The detained person involved in this emergency then overpowered and evaded the escort officers and escaped from the vehicle.

“Lancashire Police have been informed and are currently searching for the escaped prisoner.”
