The headphones are much cheaper than similar ones on the market and work brilliantly for people looking for an easy-to-use device

If you are looking for some reasonably priced wireless Bluetooth headphones you might overlook Sony, as it’s not a brand often associated with budget buys. However, last year I picked up a pair of Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones and they’re one of the best purchases I made in 2023.

I was looking for a pair of headphones that were easy to set up and didn’t break the bank. The headphones come in four colours – blue, tan, white and blue and cost £34.99 from Amazon.

Originally I wanted the tan colour but at the time they were sold out so I settled for the blue hue. The headphones fit over your head and have pads around the speakers for comfortable wear. They have a 50-hour battery life which is perfect for me as I use them every single day. I can have them on for up to eight hours a day, I use them for everything from listening to music and podcasts to call-making – I can even connect them to my laptop for meetings too.

Dehumidifier with more than 14,000 five-star reviews is ‘affordable and easy to use’

Five things I have in my Amazon basket ready to buy on Prime Day

The headphones have an ‘Active Noise Cancellation’ feature which is practical if you’re taking meetings from home and there’s a lot of background noise. For me, the long battery life is one of the device’s best features.

They only need charging every three or four days and take an hour or so to reach 100% battery life. If you’re short on time a 3-minute quick-charge can give you 1.5 hours of listening time.

They are super easy to set up too, simply press and hold the start button on the side of the headphones and connect to your devices via Bluetooth – be it a phone, tablet or laptop. I haven’t connected them to a TV yet but if you’re a gamer this is an option.

Let’s get into the sound quality, they have a ‘Digital Sound Enhancement Engine’ feature that restores musics high frequency, and there’s also a gradual fade-out feature so songs don’t abruptly stop before the next one begins.

If you download the accompanying Sound Connect app on your phone you can also tailor the sound in the Equalizer setting. It is pretty user-friendly, even for someone like me.

Five buttons allow you to hear the difference in sound – generally each one changes the bass. The app also keeps track of what you’ve been listening to and your daily usage.

On the right-hand side of the headphones, you’ll find three buttons, am on/off switch, and two volume buttons. You can also answer your phone through the headphones using these buttons.

According to the product description, you can also use voice-control to control these features but I have not set this up yet. One downside is how big and bulky they are, they don’t fit in any of my bags so they are not travel-friendly.

If I am on a long train journey I have to hook them around my bag strap but this isn’t practical and they tend to just slip and fall to the floor. You can buy the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones here.

Overall, I really enjoy using these headphones. For the £34.99 price point, the battery life lasts days and the sound quality is really good – I have two Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus Bluetooth Speakers and the sound quality of these headphones is just as good despite costing hundreds of pounds less.

Amazon users also approve of the device, with a 4.6 overall star rating and more than 21,000 reviews. One customer praised the headphones writing: “Good battery life, durable, easy to connect, lightweight, good sound quality for pricepoint.”

However, one displeased customer said the ear cushioning came off not long after buying them. They explained: “I only had these headphones for two weeks and had been enjoying using them.

“However one day I went to use them and noticed that one earbud had popped out of the socket and can’t be reattached! I was using them very normally and hadn’t dropped or banged them at all. Really disappointed in the quality.”

Alternatively, you can pick up a pair of APPLE AirPods 4 from Currys for £179. The white earbuds have active noise cancellation, and the shape of the earbuds has been redesigned for extra comfort when using.

Elsewhere, these Jlab JBuds Lux ANC Over-Ear Wireless Headphones are £79.99 from Argos. They have a Smart Active Noise Cancelling feature and you can also personalise the sound via the JLab App.
