Beauty editor Laura Mulley has tested no end of face creams over the years but this one is practically perfect, she says, great for winter and suitable for all skin types

A moisturiser is an essential part of most people’s skincare routine, but it isn’t always easy to find the right one; too light and it won’t be hydrating enough for dry skin, too thick and there’s a chance it might block pores and cause breakouts.

I’ve tried hundreds of face creams over my career as a beauty editor and in all honesty, I’ve struggled to find ones that I truly love and would buy again; lots make my blemish-prone skin break out, but water- or gel-consistency ones aren’t hydrating enough to properly moisturise dry, flakey patches. In fact, I usually end out skipping moisturiser altogether, going straight from serum to SPF. This Medik8 formula, however, has been a total game changer.

‘Perfect for winter’ £12 cream that’s ‘very effective on eczema’ and suitable for babies

Pros

  • Easily absorbed but still feels hydrating enough
  • Doesn’t block pores
  • Layers really well with other skincare products
  • Leaves skin with a healthy glow
  • Refillable, and refills cost less

Cons

  • Not the cheapest
  • Products in pots aren’t as hygienic as tubes or push-up dispensers

Medik8 is a brand that’s loved by so many – shoppers and skincare experts alike – and I really rate lots of its products, including Crystal Retinal and C-Tetra Luxe, but I’d never really tried any of it moisturisers until I got my hands on Medik8’s Total Moisture Daily Facial Cream, which is priced at £45 for a 50ml tub and £40 for 50 refills.

Conaining multiple weights of hyaluronic acid and a barrier-supporting prebiotic peptide as well as ceramides and lipids, Medik8’s clinical tests shows that it gives 100 hours of moisturisation, with 100% of testers agreeing their skin felt less dry and tight after using it.

For me, it’s as near to a ‘perfect’ face cream as I’ve ever found. It’s nourishing but non-greasy, banishes dryness without making me break out in spots, and leaves my skin looking fresher, plumper and healthier, a result that lasts all day. I honestly think all skin types can use it and love it – it has made me reintroduce this skincare step back into my routine, and my skin is all the better for it.

Another face cream that I scraped every scrap out of recently is Skin Rocks The Moisturiser, £58, although I’d say this one was a little richer, and more suited to normal-to-dry skin.

Meanwhile for value, no much beats CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for Dry to Very Dry Skin, currently down from £12 to £9.38.
