My go-to product from Lidl is underrated and costs less than £3
Keeping your weekly shopping bill in check requires savvy decision-making about where you spend your money. After years of putting various supermarkets to the test, Lidl often proves itself as the best value for money.
Luckily, I have a Lidl right on my doorstep, meaning barely a day goes by where I don’t visit. And for good reason too — the bakery is amazing, and the loyalty scheme is the best out of any supermarket, in my opinion.
I’ve tried dozens of Lidl items over the years, but if I had to pick one favourite, it’s got to be a cheap cupboard staple I use every day without fail, and it costs less than £3.
Nothing beats a freshly brewed coffee before the working day begins. Buying a coffee machine has saved me hundreds of pounds in takeaway costs, though the pods themselves aren’t always the cheapest.
That is, unless you shop at Lidl. Their espresso pods are so underrated in my opinion, and I say that having worked my way through countless brands over the years, from Lavazza to Starbucks.
Even stacked up against other supermarket own-brand pods, Lidl is the clear winner. Rich, smooth and delicious, they’re ideal for whipping up a morning flat white.
You’ll find them exactly where you’d expect, in the tea and coffee aisle, available in several varieties including Ristretto and Lungo to suit your preferred brew strength.
The Bellarom capsules are also the most affordable I’ve seen, at least in supermarkets. A box of 20 costs £2.89, bringing each capsule down to just 14p, which is very good value, especially when a pack of 10 Starbucks pods costs £4.15 at Sainsbury’s, reports the Express.
I’ve recommended these pods to so many people, and they’ve all been as happy as I am. Other supermarket-branded pods I’ve tried tend to taste diluted and lacking in strength, which is far from ideal when it’s 6:30am and you’re practically nodding off while turning on the coffee maker.
If your coffee machine still works with the traditional-style Nespresso pods — not the circular ones — then you have to try Lidl’s own range. You won’t find them cheaper anywhere else.
Even on Amazon when purchasing them in slightly larger quantities, which I previously did, they’re still pricier. For instance, a pack of 100 will cost you £15, so 15p each pod, meaning Lidl’s remain better value.
I know that pods aren’t very environmentally friendly, so I’m keen to upgrade my machine to a bean-to-cup model sometime soon.
And when that moment arrives, the Lidl beans will be top of my shopping list, and I have high expectations for those as well.
