Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 20s died in a house fire on the Isle of Wight.
Around 30 firefighters rushed to the scene on Ronsons Close, Cowes, at 3.32am on Friday, and battled to bring the blaze under control as it spread to neighbouring homes, forcing residents to evacuate. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Saturday evening, officers arrested two 24-year-olds and a 59-year-old, all from Cowes, on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life, bringing the total number of arrests to four. They remain in custody, a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said.
A 28-year-old man from Ventnor, arrested on the same offences on Friday, has been released on bail while inquiries take place.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the deceased man’s next of kin have been informed but that no formal identification had not taken place.
The force have warned residents to expect an increased presence in the area as they continue with their investigation.
Police confirmed the 28-year-old suspect who has since been bailed was also held on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Anyone with information or relevant footage from doorbell, dashcam or CCTV is being asked to contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
