Travel expert Matthew Corrigan has shared a number of tips which may help people save money when they come to book their next holidays away, possibly next year

A travel expert has shared a number of less known tips which may help people save money when booking their holidays for next year.

Travel can often be expensive on bank accounts, but there are a number of factors which add to the costs. However, this doesn’t mean you have to break the bank when booking well deserved retreats away.

Matthew Corrigan, CEO at Trtl Travel, has shared a number of ways people can save when they book. He said for people to make their money go the furthest when it comes to holidays, they should book night-time flights, their flights and accommodation separately, fly at weekends and clear cookies on computers.

He told the Leader : “By booking your flights and accommodation separately, you have the freedom to compare prices and find the most affordable options for each. This way, you can tailor your travel arrangements to suit your budget and preferences.

“Off-peak hours are less popular with travellers, meaning the prices are generally cheaper — sometimes by hundreds of pounds — when you opt for a red-eye flight. When searching for flights online, airlines and travel websites often use cookies to track your browsing history. This can result in prices appearing higher each time you search for the same route.

“To potentially find lower fares, clear your browser cookies or use an incognito or private browsing mode. This way, you’ll start each search with a clean slate and may come across better deals.”

Earlier this week, money and travel expert Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk said there are a number of factors which can add to the costs including destination, when you book, which airport you travel from and more. There are a number of ways to ensure you’re getting the best deal possible, such as setting price alerts, joining newsletters and being flexible with your dates.

He said: “I love travelling and so I’m always looking for the cheapest flights. We’re lucky to have Europe on our doorstep with a diverse range of countries and cultures. If you’re savvy, you can get return flights from just £28 to Palma, Spain.”
