The money educator said that she’s learned from some common money mistakes in her past so you don’t have to, sharing what was a ‘game-changer’ for her saving journey

If you’re not so good at saving money, one guru has three tips for you that could see you save “a lot” of money, quickly, “even if you have zero savings right now”.

Anna, a money educator, said that she used to be “stuck living paycheck to paycheck with little savings at all,” but she managed to “turn it around” when she learned the wisdom she was going to impart to her followers.

The first piece of advice she gave to people was: “Don’t be vague about what you’re aiming for, or how much you’re gonna be saving each month.”

She said that money “isn’t just numbers and maths, it’s actually your mindest and your emotions as well,” so if you can put the two of them together when it comes to saving money, “you’re onto a winner”.

Anna said that “when you keep it vague,” it becomes easier to not fulfil the saving promise to yourself and to wonder whether “that fifty quid” will actually make much of a difference or not.

But, “if you know exactly what you’re saving for,” and you know “why” you’re saving the money, “your emotions have less of a chance to derail you” and you can “keep on track” with your goals.

The second tip, Anna said, was a “game-changer” for her when she was trying to save a lot of money in a short amount of time.

She recommended people get “super creative” about how they “create income” and lose the mindset that you should just “go get a job” and that should be it.

“When you learn to think more entrepreneurially about creating income, that’s where things really start to open up. Because savings then aren’t just about how much you can scrimp and save and set aside – it’s about how much more you can earn and set aside,” she shared.

Anna’s final tip she said “may sound counterintuitive,” but it’s to not “push yourself too hard”.

She said: “If you’re trying to save up a lot of money, it’s going to be a long game. You’re not going to get there in two months.

“The mistake that I’ve made in the past and the mistake that I see a lot of people making is they have this kind of wake-up moment, and they’re like ‘, right, I need to save,’ and then what they do is they just save as much as they possibly can.

“But the problem is, it’s just not sustainable, so after six weeks of beans on toast, you get to the point where you’re like ‘, I just can’t be bothered with this’, and you give up.”

Anna recommended that you ask yourself, ‘How can I still enjoy my life, keep this sustainable, but save as much as I can?’ and then follow that plan.
