Wearing SPF is known to be the best preventative method against skin ageing and beauty writer Tiffany Lo has highlighted her top picks
As a beauty writer, the one skincare product I never skip is sunscreen. The most important step to wrap up your skincare routine in any season, SPF helps to defend against aggressors like UV rays, which are responsible for ageing signs like sunspots and wrinkles, as well as fine lines.
During my recent trip to the sun-drenched Southeast Asia where temperatures go up to 35 degrees, there were two sunscreen products that became my handbag beauty staples: Ultra Violette’s new Future Fluid Mineral SPF (£38) and Sheen Screen hydrating lip balm (£17).
Both the face and lip products cover a broad spectrum of SPF50+ and block out UVA and UVB rays, which can cause skin ageing and burning, according to the British Skin Foundation.

Having tried different sunscreens in the past, I found the Ultra Violette Future Fluid suitable for travelling in hot, humid countries. The ultra-lightweight sunscreen contains vitamin E and squalane to help hydrate the skin, niacinamide to help balance oil production and improve skin texture, and vitamin C to brighten the complexion and minimise the look of dark spots. It’s like a serum with sun protection, making it easy when it comes to topping up.
I didn’t have to go through my entire skincare routine – a simple spritz of Rose Water (I use Mario Badescu’s facial spray), quick wipe and dabbing two finger-length lines of Ultra Violette sunscreen on my face and neck did the job for me. Aside from the skincare benefits, what I like about the Future Fluid is the non-sticky formula that leaves no white cast and the light-beige colour that almost doubles as a skin tint, delivering a mild concealing effect and blurred pores.
The Ultra Violette Future Fluid made me feel confident to not wear any base makeup during my recent holiday. It is a mineral sunscreen formulated with lightweight zinc from Japan that blends easily and sinks into skin.
Mineral sunscreen tends to last longer in the sun; however it washes off with water. With that said, I had had a few top-ups while I was out sightseeing in Vietnam. I also had a minor issue with the twist design when I used it on the long-haul flight. The change in air pressure caused the sunscreen to spurt out of the bottle.
I’ve mentioned a lot about the sun protection on the face and neck but our lips are equally important and that’s when Ultra Violette’s Sheen Screen Hydrating Lip Balm came to rescue. With six colours to choose from, I tried Smoothie, a mauve rose shade that is perfect for everyday look.
I found the consistency thicker than other lip balms on the market, which meant a a bit of effort was required to get the product out the tube. It is nourishing with a nice tint and easy to re-apply.
