I met Trinny at the launch of her new lip duo product and got to try out a colour-matched-to-me shade of her new lip liner and top coat duo – and it’s gorgeous
Trinny looked fabulous at the launch of her new product, The Lip Reset – a vision in head-to-toe pink. Her shimmering shirt with cinched balloon sleeves and a draping neck-tie, fell like water over her pink, waist-coated suit and, of course, she finished the look with the perfect nude shade of her new lip duo.
The set is designed, as the name implies, as a reset for our lips, and there could be all sort of reasons you might want that. Perhaps you feel a little stuck-in-a-rut (you’ve been using the same lippy for more years than you’d care to admit). Or maybe you’re noticing signs of ageing that mean you’re falling out of love with your pout (in my case fine lines and less volume than there used to be). Whatever the issue, this product is designed to help you fall back in love with your lips. As Trinny says, “This is the new way for a woman to feel the confidence to do her lips and bring them back into focus.”
Deciem’s Hand Chemistry anti-ageing hand cream is back after overwhelming demand
The Lip Reset kit, £47, consists of a smudge-proof lip liner pencil and an oil top coat gloss “like a lip gloss and a lip oil had a baby together – it’s an incredible texture,” says Trinny. Unlike a standard gloss it isn’t sticky. “I can’t bear a sticky lip product,” she explains, and unlike many lip plumping glosses, there’s no prickly plumping feeling either. Instead the gloss contains portulaca pilosa extract, an ingredient which doubles the level of hyaluronic acid in the lip for a fuller plumper appearance.
The duo comes in 10 shade pairings, each presented in a pretty, white zip-up pouch, and they’re all matched for perfect colour combination – so there’s no mixing and matching for you to do. And not just that, but you can find exactly the colour combination that works best for your skin type with the Match2Me quiz on Trinny London. The matching service will recommend a range of bold brights and soft nudes. All you have to do is line, gloss and go.
Does The Lip Resetduo live up to the hype?
It really does! When I attended the launch I was shade matched to a bold colour combination (I love a statement lip) – the Rosie & Kiki set. It’s not the shade I’d have naturally chosen (I’d usually just go for a red) but I love it – it feels modern and flattering.
As to the formula, it’s honestly one of my favourite lip products I’ve used in a long time. The liner pencil goes on so smoothly (that’s the castor oil in it), so you can get a perfect outline whether you’re tracing your cupid’s bow exactly, or gently accentuating your lower lip line. My lips felt fuller and poutier – it’s a little one-minute confidence boost.
My personal lip paranoia that as I age, the pigment of my lips is receding and making my lower lip look thinner and thinner. The ease with which this liner goes on means I can apply it quickly but with precision. It’s so comfortable to wear, with a barely-there feel (unlike so many thick, matte lip liners I’ve used before). I can apply the gloss over the top without even using a mirror because I know I can just dab it in the centre of my lips for a really pretty effect. And it really isn’t sticky, so not awkward hair-stuck-to-face moments.
It lasted really well, too – until I ate a steak sandwich for lunch, but one reapplication a day seems fair enough to me.
This is up there with my absolute favourite lip products, including the Clarins Lip Perfector in Intense Smoky Rose and VB’s Posh Lipstick in Pop.
