The frozen supermarket chain issued the recall notice today through the Foods Standards Agency for its Vegetable Lasagne as the “possible presence of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat”

Iceland has been forced to recall a popular frozen dinner as it could contain pieces of hard plastic. The frozen supermarket chain issued the recall notice today through the Foods Standards Agency for its Vegetable Lasagne as the “possible presence of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat.”

The product affected by the recall notice has the best before dates of:

  • July, 23 2026
  • July 30, 2026

The supermarket chain confirmed that the recall notice was a “precautionary measure” which means not all of the products could be impacted – although some could. When this is the case, it is always better the recall the entire batch. The recall notice explained: “We are taking the precautionary measure ofrecalling the date codes of the above product because It may contain hard pieces of plastic making It unsafe to eat. Only the Best Before date codes listed in this notice are affected.”

Iceland has not confirmed how the hard pieces of plastic managed to get into the food product. Although, it is likely due to an issue on the production line.

Shoppers have warned customers not to eat the frozen lasagna product if they have purchased one that has been affected by the recall. Instead, shoppers should return the product to their local Iceland store for a full refund. Shoppers will not need a receipt.

The price of the product affected by the recall notice sits at £1. If shoppers have any further questions on the notice then they should contact Iceland’s customer care support line on 0800 328 0800.

Iceland sells other frozen lasagna products which are similar but not affected by the recall. This includes its standard lasagna, which weighs 400g and is priced at £1. Another vegetable lasagna sold by the frozen food chain is the “Taste of Italy” Vegetable lasagna, which also weighs 400g but is a little more expensive at £2.50. Both products have the same design, with a green background and an image of a lasagna on the front – although the standard lasagna’s packaging is slightly darker.

What are recall notices?

Products can be recalled for a range of different reasons including safety – if a product displays risks for the customer – or quality – when the product isn’t working as it should be. The Food Standards Agency is in charge of issuing alerts when there is a problem with a food product. The product can either be “withdrawn” which is where is it taken off the shelves or “recalled” which is when customers are asked to return it.

Food products need to be recalled if they are found to have been contaminated with pathogens that could cause food poisoning, or if plastic or metal has been found in the product due to manufacturing faults.

Food items also need to be recalled if any allergen information is missing or incorrect. The Office for Product Safety and Standards is responsible for everything else which does not fall into food, medicines, and vehicles.
