Durham Constabulary has issued an update on Soham killer Ian Huntley’s condition after he was attacked at HMP Frankland prison in a recycling workshop with a metal pole

- Soham killer Ian Huntley remains seriously ill in hospital three days after being brutally attacked at HMP Frankland.
- Durham Constabulary confirmed there has been no change in the 52-year-old’s condition overnight following the assault with a metal pole. A spokesperson said: “The 52-year-old man remains in hospital in a serious condition, there have been no changes overnight.”
- Sources claim Huntley has just a 5% chance of survival after suffering a broken jaw and serious brain and skull injuries. The child murderer is reportedly hooked up to a ventilator in hospital.
- Triple killer Anthony Russell is reportedly a suspect in the attack, though police have not confirmed the attacker’s identity. He allegedly shouted “I’ve done it, I’ve done it” after repeatedly smashing Huntley over the head up to 15 times. The attack happened on Thursday morning when Huntley was bent over tying string on a recycling crate in a prison workshop.
- Huntley murdered 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire, in August 2002. Russell was sentenced to a whole-life tariff in 2021 for murdering three people including a pregnant woman.
- This was the latest attempt on Huntley’s life in prison, with a previous attack in 2010 leaving him with severe neck wounds requiring 21 stitches.
