Prince William didn’t have much to say to one darts star

Darts sensation Fallon Sherrock previously revealed her awkward meeting with Prince William. The 31-year-old became a groundbreaking figure in the sport in 2019 when she made history as the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship.

Her reputation as a game-changer grew further when she reached the Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finals in 2021, before securing the first-ever Women’s World Matchplay crown in 2022. Sherrock also broke new ground by becoming the first woman to take part in the 2020 Premier League as one of the weekly contenders.

The impressive accomplishments of the ‘Queen of the Palace’ earned her an MBE in the 2023 Birthday Honours for services to darts. Yet, the ceremony where she received the honour didn’t go quite as seamlessly as she’d hoped.

Describing the occasion as “nerve-racking”, she discussed the experience with darts commentator Wayne Mardle on his Club 501 YouTube channel. Sherrock recalled: “I remember getting there and just feeling so nervous about it, because I didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what to do.

“My feet were killing me from wearing heels all day. We were walking miles – I should have worn comfier shoes!” It was her Royal meeting with the Prince of Wales that Sherrock confessed caused her the most embarrassment. “I think I was more worried about embarrassing myself,” she said.

“Because I know you have like a little chat. I just didn’t wanna say anything stupid. But I kind of did a little bit. I didn’t mean to – to William. He said obviously that he watches darts on the television, and I literally turned around – so stupid – I turned around: ‘What on the TV?’

“Like, really stupid and he kind of looked at me and was like: ‘Yes, the television.’ He just looked at me plain, like, did you just say TV? I was shaking and just like: ‘Hi.'”

Following Royal protocol, as is customary when meeting members of the Royal Family, particularly when receiving such an honour, Sherrock explained the formalities she had to observe on the day.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 more.

She disclosed: “You’re there, and you sit in a room, waiting, and you can venture around the castle, have a look around, and all that. Then you go sit in another room, and they tell you what you’ve got to do before you meet.

“Because you’ve got to get to one place and another place, and you’re not allowed to turn your back on them and all of that, but it’s like 30 seconds.” Sherrock’s participation in this year’s World Darts Championship was short-lived as she was defeated 3-0 by Dave Chisnall in the opening round.
