I was in food heaven. But for £7.50, is it really worth it?
We all love a Tesco meal deal. In fact, I think we make it our mission in the UK to hunt down which supermarkets have the best combos and value for money.
So when I heard about Tesco’s £7.50 frozen meal deal, I was a tad sceptical. It comes with a choice of main, side and sweet treat…all for just £7.50.
In this financial climate, that value for money is hard to come by. But is it worth it?

Tesco Frozen Meal Deal – is it worth it?
For £7.50 straight off the bat, I have to say yes. We tried the following from their range:
- Korean Style Chicken Tenders with Gochujang Sauce 350g
- Garlic & Herb Chicken Tenders with Marinara Sauce 350g
- Goat’s Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pizza 440g
- Potato Dauphinoise 480g
- British Petits Pois 750g
- Colombian Coffee ice cream
- Apple Crumble and Salted Caramel ice cream
Mains
For the mains, I loved the Goat’s Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pizza. I do like pizza, but I’m not a huge fan because if the base is too doughy and tasteless, which it often is with supermarket varieties, I’m put off. This, however, tasted great and offered incredible flavours.
The goat’s cheese was strong, but not overpowering, while the caramelised onion was sweet, but not sickly. I love goat cheese anything, so combining it with caramelised onion on a pizza is heaven.
Next up were the chicken tenders. My partner ended up polishing off the garlic and herb ones after what can only be described as a tragic communication breakdown. I thought he was asking if I wanted some; apparently, he was asking if he could have them.
So when I walked over to grab mine, you could imagine the heartbreak. Still, he assured me they were great and that’s what matters…
Thankfully, I did get to try the Korean-style tenders with gochujang sauce, and these were incredible. They packed a real kick, and the tenders themselves were surprisingly generous in size.
After a long day at work followed by a few errands, I paired them with the pizza and it made for a proper deli-style dinner at home.
Sides
We also had a side of their Petits Pois as well as their Potato Dauphinoise. If you were to ask me my favourite form of potatoes, this would be it.
Dauphinoise are only great if they are creamy, garlicy and soul-warming. And these were that! They were slightly on the dry side, though, but otherwise a great option and you can’t complain for £7.50.
Dessert
On my way home from the hairdresser’s, feeling slightly peckish, I nipped into the Co-op and grabbed a pack of salted caramel and chocolate hot cross buns. Highly recommend by the way!
Fast forward a few days with one bun left in the packet and a tub of ice cream shouting my name, I made my own dessert. Using the Apple Crumble and Salted Caramel ice cream, I took a couple of spoons and sandwiched it between the hot cross bun. The result? Heaven.
I have yet to make use of the Colombian Coffee ice cream as for me, it tastes too much like coffee even though I love the drink itself. The flavour isn’t subtle, it’s quite strong to the point I feel like I’ve just sipped on a cold espresso. But like the epic creation above, this ice cream would make an insane frappe.
So overall, I would say it is value for money. Especially if you want a Valentine’s Day meal without the hyped up cost.
If I were you, I would opt for a combo of the Goat’s Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pizza, Potato Dauphinoise and the Apple Crumble and Salted Caramel for a gorgeous Valentine’s Day meal.
Pick up some of your favourite hot cross buns, make the creation above, and you’ll have a lovely night in. Because who wants to spend £100 for a meal out when you could be in the comfort of your own home. In three words – Simple, indulgent, and perfect (for a night in)
