A savvy bargain hunter and DIY lover has shared how you don’t need to break the bank when it comes to home makeovers – and wows people with her impressive bathroom revamp for just £300

A woman has shared how you can transform a room on a budget – and has stunned fellow DIY lovers with her bargain makeover.

Carol Folan shared her bathroom transformation, as she revealed she spent just £300 – thanks to her savvy budgeting and bargain-hunting skills.

While people may be reluctant to splash money on home renovations, Carol proved you don’t need to break the bank when it comes to revamping your home as she shared her “maximalist” renovation on Facebook – leaving people stunned at the impressive results. Carol managed to keep the costs low as she shopped on budget websites such as Etsy and Temu as well as high street shops and supermarkets.

Carol, who admitted she’s “usually boring” shared images of her new loo, which now looks like a tropical paradise, on the popular Facebook page DIY On A Budget Official, and said: “Love my new bathroom,” and added: “[It’s] council so I can’t change the shower or wet wall.”

The mum told Fabulous she shopped around and bought her mirror cabinet from Argos, the toilet seat and sink cupboard from Wayfair, and found the jazzy wallpaper on Amazon. Carol called it an “at-home tropical paradise”.

She stated that she also picked up some bargains from high street shops and added that the animal print towels were from Zara, and accessorised the new room with a classic black vase from B&Q. Other furnishings included a diffuser from Sainsbury’s and some soap dispensers from The Range.

Fellow members of the Facebook group rushed to the comments to share their amazement at the budget renovations as one person commented: “Absolutely gorgeous,” while another said: “Love, love, love it!”

Another said: “Loving the maximalist look everyone has right now. RIP Hinch grey,” and Carol responded to the positive comments and quipped: “Thanks everyone, I’m usually so boring.”

One couple managed to renovate their whole home for just £12,500, and revamped their “dated” home making it unrecognisable – all thanks to some handy DIY skills that helped keep the costs low.

The young couple bought their home in Sheffield in 2019, saving up a £20,000 deposit and mortgaging the remaining £130,000 – and spent just £12,500 turning it into their dream home. Adele Teather and Tom Jackson spent three months putting their best DIY skills to the test, with a little help from friends and family – and managed to keep the cost low, despite completely stripping the home back and living on a “building site” and working every evening and weekend to complete.

The pair were even forced to wash pots and pans in the bath when they were without a kitchen – but it all paid off and their home was then valued at £170,000.
