A woman has shared how she accidentally ‘ruined’ a man’s life after connecting with him on a DNA website – but social media users believe she actually saved him from a life of misery

A woman got the shock of her life after discovering she has a long-lost sibling after taking a DNA test – but her discovery ended up ‘ruining’ his life. Sharing her story, her daughter explained how she took a DNA test to learn more about her family heritage, not expecting to come across an unfamiliar ‘connection’ when the results came through.

Taking to Reddit, she said: “My mum took a DNA test, and she chose the option that allowed her to be connected with family members. She has a half-brother, who was put up for adoption as he was the result of a fling her father had with an old girlfriend.”

Her mum came to learn how her father was “forced” to break up with his girlfriend because she came from a heavily religious family and teen pregnancy was frowned upon. The woman added: “She also had to give up the baby. My mother’s side of the family never knew about him before last year.

“My grandfather also managed to keep the secret for 60+ years, which is kind of impressive.” Her mum ended up meeting up with her half-brother – and she couldn’t believe how similar he looked to her father. The pair started spending a lot of time with each other – sharing stories about their childhoods and tracking down his biological mother.

However, his wife started to become jealous of him spending so much time with his ‘new’ sister. The woman added: “I’m also happy for him for being able to find his biological family. Turns out he lived 20 minutes away from us for his whole life, and we had no idea. We even went to the same family doctor.

“The only downside is, after finding out about the whole thing, his wife got jealous of him spending time with all of his long lost siblings and they ended up getting divorced.” However, she believes he is better off without her – and says he has recently started dating another woman.

Commenting on her post, one user said: “Doesn’t sound like a downside to me. Good riddance to her.” Another user added: “Maybe having a bigger family gave him the courage to finally leave.” A third user said: “This was common back in the day. It was all about image and a chick having a baby out of wedlock was a terrible look. Had nothing to do with religion. Less of a big deal nowadays.”
