As we enter the final hours of Amazon’s Spring Sale event, the clock is ticking on irresistible discounts on everything from large screen TVs to high-end beauty products that suddenly become more appealing with up to 32% off (I’m eyeing you, Elemis). As a shopping writer who has covered many such events, one of the gadgets I’ve been recommending most since the sale began is essentially a high-tech version of a kitchen essential that you didn’t realise you needed and it now comes with a hefty discount, bringing it down to its lowest ever price.

The retailer has reduced the price on lots of high end kitchenware as part of their Spring Deal Days, which run until 11.59pm tonight, putting them head to head with Lakeland whose mid season sale is offering savings on everything from their famous heated airers to air fryer essentials.

But in my opinion, one of the best kitchen bargains of the week is at Amazon and it’s on Cosori’s Bluetooth-enabled smart scales, which were previously priced at £47.42 on Amazon and have a recommended retail price of £49.99. They’ve been marked down as a spring deal to £33.99, a saving of 28% on the previous price and the lowest price they’ve been sold at since the scales were introduced late last year.

I’m someone who often scoffs at the current fashion for wifi and app-controlled kitchen appliances. I don’t see the need for my washing machine to ping me when it’s done – call me when robots masters can actually unload and hang up the laundry. While I do own a set of digital bathroom scales – which I find incredibly useful – I hadn’t thought of smart kitchen scales as essential.

However, it seems they’ve become quite the popular kitchen gadget recently, reports the Manchester Evening News. In recent years, several versions have launched in the UK, with KitchenAid’s smart kitchen scale with similar features priced at £59.10 and Salter’s version currently on sale for £17.40 joining Cosori’s version on the virtual shelves.

I didn’t anticipate falling for these Bluetooth-enabled scales as much as I have, but they might just be the best scales I’ve ever owned. It’s worth noting that even if you’re just after some sleek digital scales that can easily be stowed away in a drawer, these are a fantastic choice and that’s without pairing them with your phone.

Their flat and spacious rectangular base provides an excellent surface for weighing items in a large bowl or saucepan, with a maximum weight capacity of 5kg. The display is clear, backlit and easy to read, offering consistent readings even if you remove and replace the bowl. You might think this is a basic expectation from a pair of scales, but past experiences with various other sets suggest otherwise.

However, if you’re a fitness enthusiast, whether you’re into traditional calorie counting or someone who not only knows what macros are but also wants to track them, then this scale could be the gadget you didn’t realise you needed – and at this price, it’s an absolute bargain.

The Cosori scale tracks 12 different nutrients and metrics, including calories, carbs and protein. It can sync with Cosori’s Vesync app, which also integrates with Apple Health and Fitbit to share your nutritional data across platforms.

This is ideal if you’re working towards fitness goals, as it monitors trends and habits to provide daily, weekly and monthly nutrition reports. I’ve been using the scales for a few months now and they are a brilliant addition to my kitchen. They’re precise enough for even the most exacting baking requirements, and the fancy high spec features are rather fascinating.

Admittedly, it can feel a bit tricky at first – I remember initially pressing the wrong button and scrapping a partial calculation – but once you’ve mastered it, it becomes quite engaging.

Particularly if you’re dealing with simple nutritional values, it’s relatively straightforward to use. There’s a handy feature that means you can weigh multiple ingredients in the same bowl adding them in bit by bit – and then, should you wish to, work out the calorie count for your combination.

There is however one down side. The scale doesn’t sync directly with fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal or LoseIt, which I use to track meals, so there’s a bit of extra faff having to enter details after calculating them. But all things considered, this scale is a cracking gadget.

Others seem to agree, with it scoring an impressive 4-star rating out of 5 on Amazon and it’s been snapped up over 700 times just this month.

One satisfied shopper said: “This kitchen scale is super practical if you’re tracking your food or trying to stick to a health goal. It’s really accurate and easy to use. The Bluetooth connection to the app is straightforward-once you’ve synced it, it tracks everything seamlessly.

“The design feels solid with the stainless steel finish. It’s easy to clean and looks nice on the counter. The scale itself responds quickly when you’re measuring, so you’re not standing there waiting for the numbers to settle.

“One thing to mention is that the app takes a bit of exploring to get the hang of, but once you figure it out, it’s very intuitive. I’ve used it for a few recipes and meal prep sessions, and it’s been spot on. If you’re looking for something reliable and tech-friendly, this is a great little tool to have in the kitchen.”

Another user added: “I ordered these kitchen scales as I liked the wide base and they are much more better sized than my previous kitchen scale where often bowls and plates would cover the display and made measuring and weighing things out difficult.

“I like the wide plate of these scales and the display is backlit and easy to read. Although the feature of these scales is the nutritional calculator that is accessed via an app, it wasn’t really the main reason for me ordering these scales and it was more the size and functionality of weighing food items.

“I did try the app and it did seem to work well and connectivity was simple and straightforward for anyone that would like to track nutritional values and if you’re not bothered about the app then they work perfectly fine without it, you don’t have to download the app to use these as normal scales.”

However, some customers felt the device was let down by its accompanying app. One user explained: “Linking to the app was effortless but the developers really need to look around how other apps work. For example you can easily create a meal for future use but when you add a “2-egg omelette” to breakfast it lists every single ingredient in the omelette. Surely better to provide just the summary with a detail page to look at the nutritional values. But it is good to easily weigh and look up nutritional values of foodstuffs but really it’s best then to copy them over to one of the better diet tracking apps. Shame – the idea is excellent but implementation weak at the moment. But that’s the wonder of software. Easily updated if they put the resources into it.”

The Cosori Bluetooth scales are currently part of Amazon’s Spring Sale which runs until 11.59pm tonight (Monday, March 31). Meanwhile, Lakeland’s kitchen sale is ongoing and includes scales without the app feature.
