As the supermodel is blasted for selling a £699 jacket as part of her collaboration with the high street retailer, The Mirror’s Consumer Editor – and self-described Kate Moss fan – gives her verdict

I am part of the Kate Moss Topshop generation and remember what a big deal her first collection for the brand in 2007 was.

Waking up very early to log into my laptop from my student digs to join the Topshop virtual queue after weeks of anticipation is etched in my memory.

Back then, my student loan was able to stretch to buying both a floral playsuit and a yellow one shoulder dress – and you can’t fault the quality as both items are still in my wardrobe 17 years on.

I’m still a fan of Kate Moss’s style, like her I love sequins and leopard print and I also shop in Zara fairly regularly, so really I should have been the target market for this capsule collection.

But the reality is, for me it is just far too expensive for a shop I would class as more of a Budget-friendly option.

For example, my most recent Zara purchase was a black velvet dress that cost me £35 full-price – so I’d balk at the idea of spending £149 on a Kate Moss dress from there.

And don’t get me started on spending almost £700 on a jacket from a high street retailer – for that price I’d want a designer item – so I’m not surprised that product hasn’t been a sell-out.

It’s little wonder then that this has not had quite the hype of her more accessible Topshop collections.
