Our Beauty Lead Zoe tests Shark’s FacialPro Glow system on her congested, post-party season pores

Testing new skincare gadgets is part of my job, but despite my initial excitement at trialling them, many often end up forgotten in my skincare drawer shortly after being used. However, Shark’s new FacialPro Glow system has been everywhere on my social media this month, so I was praying for it to live up to the hype – and for it to earn a place in my permanent skincare routine.

Spoiler? It did.

What is the Shark FacialPro Glow Glow-Boosting At-Home Facial System?

It’s Shark’s big leap into beauty tech. It combines exfoliation, suction-extraction, hydration and cooling in one handheld device, with different attachments for each step. It’s currently £269.99 instead of £299.99, which makes it a little more tempting if you’ve also been eyeing it up.

My favourite attachment by far is the exfoliation and extraction one. You fill a little tank with water and then glide the tool’s nozzle (there are choices for sensitive skin, normal skin and for the t-zone to choose from) slowly across your face, and it kind of vacuums away dead cells and trapped oil.

The proof is in the other tank at the back that fills with… well, stuff. Truly disgusting but also absolutely fascinating. And unlike some similar tools I’ve tried, it didn’t leave any suction circles on my face. It was just smooth skin, smaller-looking pores and a clean, tight-but-not-dry feeling you normally only get after a facialist has spent an hour on you.

After the detox step you can switch to hydration mode. For this, you can fill up the tank with the serum in the bundle and repeat the same steps. Even more gunk came out for me here – I was shocked there was anything left in my pores, quite honestly!

There’s also a hot-and-cold massage attachment that I didn’t expect to use much but ended up loving. Warmth helps your skincare melt in, and the cold mode works a treat on puffiness and a dull, dehydrated look you get from central heating.

It’s not a miracle worker, and you do need to stick to the guidance. It’s definitely a once-a-week tool, and you shouldn’t use it right after acids or retinoids. But when the hydro-extraction attachment is used as an occasional treatment rather than a daily gadget, it’s brilliant. My face felt smoother, clearer and noticeably less congested, and make-up went on better afterwards too.

Did my pores fully vanish? No, but I got results that skincare has never been able to give me, so I’ll take the win. Plus, it was nice to give my skin a proper blitz after the indulgences of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

If you like the idea of fresher skin without booking constant facials, this is one of the few devices that’s actually worth the fuss, I think. Just be prepared for what shows in the gunk tank!
