After last year’s calendar was criticised for the number of Bounty bars, a reporter opened the new calendar
With December just around the corner, now’s the time to buy an advent calendar if you haven’t already. For chocolate lovers, there’s no shortage of tasty choices, with everyone from Cadbury to Hotel Chocolat putting their spin on the festive tradition.
If last year is anything to go by, the Celebrations Chocolate Christmas Tree Advent Calendar is likely to prove popular again. However, some people might be thinking twice about the calendar this year, as a few customers who dislike Bountys claimed their Christmas was ‘ruined’ after finding a Bounty behind the first three doors in 2024.
As someone who was left disappointed by the ratio of chocolates in the calendar last year, I was eager to see what was hiding behind the doors this year. I purchased a calendar from Sainsbury’s for £8, and I was surprised when I unboxed it to find out what chocolates were behind the doors and how many of each there were.
Anyone who doesn’t want to see what’s inside the calendar before December should look away now, although I don’t think you’ll regret the purchase. Otherwise, read on to see what I found when I unboxed the calendar.
What’s inside the Celebrations Advent Calendar?
Sorry, Bounty fans, this is not your year, unlike last year. Not only does the advent calendar I got kick off with a Galaxy Caramel, but it’d be a long wait until there’s a Bounty.
Opening this year’s calendar, I wondered if Celebrations would take the opportunity to do something funny and start with a Bounty chocolate yet again. However, there was no Bounty chocolate in my calendar until day 14. Every time I opened a door, I expected to find it there, and then I was left wondering if the chocolate company had included any mini Bounty bars at all.
After last year, I’d thought the calendar might be rather front-heavy again. Instead, I opened the calendar I’d wished for last year. In my opinion, this year gets a much better mix, and you don’t get your first repeat until day six.
The good news for Bounty fans is that you still get three of the chocolates, including on day 24. That said, the calendar might not be for everyone, as there are more Mars chocolates than I expected. So here’s hoping the Mars bars prove more popular. For my part, I didn’t mind opening Mars again and again. However, I would have liked more than two Malteasers.
As for how the public responds to this year’s calendar, well, that remains to be seen. I think it will be much more popular, though.
