Black Friday is the prime time for picking up pricey items with big discounts, and senior shopping writer Faith managed to get her hands on a smart TV for under £200 at Currys
The official Black Friday day may have been and gone, but if you missed out on Friday’s sales don’t worry – there are still plenty of deals hanging around over the weekend to snap up. With the discount shopping weekend prime time for picking up pricey items on a budget, I decided now was the time to make a big purchase that had been on my wishlist for a while.
I’ve been wanting a smart TV for my bedroom for the last six months, but as this wasn’t going to be my main TV I didn’t want to spend too much money on it. That’s why I decided to wait until Black Friday to get my hands on one, and I’m so glad I did.
Thanks to Curry’s Black Friday sale, I managed to get my hands on a Roku 43” Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV for less than £199, down from £249.99, and it was exactly what I wanted. Although my saving may not have been a big one, it still makes it one of the cheapest 43” smart TVs that I’ve spotted, including after Black Friday discounts.

The Roku TV was so easy to set up that it was ready to go in under 15 minutes from taking it out of the box, and it’s simple and straightforward to use – just what you want for lazy Sundays in bed. It simply cycles through all the set ups and downloads that you need in minutes, and is ready to go in no time at all.
The most time consuming part was signing into all of my apps on it, and even then after downloading the Roku app on my phone – which lets you use your phone as a remote control – I could use my phone’s saved passwords to log into everything. One of the main complaints from people with Roku TVs is that the user interface isn’t super user friendly, which I would agree with in that it’s a little clunky.
However, the app/remote set up makes it far easier to navigate, as you can just scroll and select which app you want to open in seconds making it much smoother. Whilst it’s true that it’s not as high-tech as other big name brands, the Roku 43” Smart TV is perfect for those not wanting to spend too much money but still get a great smart TV.
The sound quality is decent and plenty loud, and the picture is sharp and clear with an LED directlit and 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160p resolution. Although I opted for the smallest size, a 43” display, you can also choose from 50”, 55” and 60” versions that are ideal for bigger rooms or main TVs setups.
You can also stack your deals at Currys right now, and get 10% off a Bose Soundbar when you buy selected TVs – including my Roku one. Just use the code BOSE10 when you check out.
