‘I have over 150 perfumes and this £22 scent is the first I’ve finished in years’

I’ve only finished one full bottle of perfume in years and it gets me compliments every time I wear it

Growing up I very much had a signature scent, Lush’s Vanillary, but my fascination with the world of perfume has meant that my collection has grown at an impressive rate. I have easily over 150 bottles of perfume in my personal collection, from celebrity scents to high-street favourites and some expensive niche scents worth hundreds.

This means I’m usually picking my fragrance based on my mood and very much it’s likely to change day to day, although I do still love Lush’s Vanillary. I have a lot of perfumes that are almost empty from me reaching for them on a regular basis but in the last few years there’s only been one that I’ve finished a full-sized bottle of.

Kayali’s Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar l 42 is the ‘lighter, youthful, summery take on its classic Vanilla | 28’ according to the brand, but I find on me it’s somehow sultry. Sephora is offering 20% off the 10ml and 50ml size of this perfume which means it can be snapped up from £22.40.

This is the one perfume that never fails to get me compliments. It opens up with candied pear, violet leaves, rum, ylang-ylang, marshmallow and vanilla cream. The heart is also sweet with bubble gum, jellybean, white caramel, jasmine and labdanum.

It’s actually the jasmine that I credit for it being such a good date scent as jasmine is widely considered an aromatic aphrodisiac. It dries down to a base of rock sugar, sugar, tonka bean, patchouli, cashmere wood, sandalwood and vetiver.

I like layering this with Snow Fairy as a shower gel, which is only available in the lead up to Christmas but is worth having a supply of, and Coco & Eve’s Glow Figure Body Moisture Whip in the scent Lychee & Dragonfruit which currently seems to be out of stock everywhere.

I think throwing a touch of lychee into the mix elevates it and I’ve had more compliments on this scent than I can count. But even when paired with a generic shower gel and fragrance-free Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion it’s still a perfume that turns heads.

I’ve flown through my 50ml bottle over the last few years which is something that very rarely happens to me thanks to the sheer size of my perfume collection. It helps that it’s such a versatile scent that can be worn day and night.

I’ve found myself in cooler months gravitating more towards heavier gourmands like Sticky Dates (£29) and Eilish (from £35). When the weather is hot Eden Sweet Peach (£80) and Vanilla Nectar (£26) take over as I think the juicy peach note is perfect for warmer weather.

I think Kayali’s Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar l 42 is perhaps the perfect perfume. It has florals, aphrodisiacs, sugary sweet notes, fruit makes an appearance and even a boozy note before drying down to wood. There’s a little bit of everything and the end result is something that can’t help but get compliments.

I’ve got compliments from all different types of people too, from men who love a smoky scent to women who only wear florals or fruity scents. That said, it is still sweet with sugar being in the name so this isn’t a good fit for those who avoid sweet fragrances.
