The box from OK! has a wide range of products that cater for both mums and babies

Finding a Mother’s Day gift is often a challenge. Sure, there’s no end of flowers and mugs packing the seasonal supermarket aisles, but while there’s nothing wrong with them, they can feel a tad unoriginal.

My partner, Katie, gave birth to my son, Teddy, last year, so this year will be her first official Mother’s Day (I said having a dog doesn’t count in the past). As any new parents will know, having a child takes a lot of work and dedication.

From tearful tantrums to nappy disasters and sleepless nights to messy dinner times, it’s definitely not easy, but is rewarded with the most precious moments too.

‘I’m a Boots fan and this ‘great value’ beauty box saves you £190 on Clarins’

‘I found a way to get Medik8’s £45 Crystal Retinal for £5 in Glossybox beauty egg deal’

So I’d been keen to get something a bit special this year and was on the hunt for a gift when I was offered the chance to try out OK!’s Mum and New Baby gift box. Priced at £49.99, the box includes more than £220 worth of items.

Other beauty boxes are out there too that could make solid Mother’s Day gifts, including LOOKFANTASTIC’s Mother’s Day Beauty Edit which is priced at £50 and boasts £215 worth of products. That one gets excellent reviews, averaging out at five stars from more than 360 verdicts, though it doesn’t have any products specifically for babies.

The gift box includes a range of products for both mum and baby

Glossybox also has a “limited edition” Easter Egg for £45, including “beauty treasures” from brands like Iconic London, Rodial, and Medik8.

Summing up her thoughts on the box, Katie said the following: “This is fantastic for new mums, as a gift or just a treat for yourself (and baby). It costs £49.99, but you get £220 worth of products, all of which are useful postpartum and beyond.

“It has been hard finding time for myself after having a baby to care for, plus everything else that comes with motherhood. This box was ideal for me as it includes not only skincare and a lovely candle to help me relax but also products to use on my baby – massage balm, body lotion and nappy cream.

“The candle smells like a luxury spa. It resulted in lots of compliments from guests. Given the price, it is worth it for just the candle and massage balm alone. My only slight issue is the baby body lotion doesn’t smell like I was expecting and was a little bit sticky once dried, however, the midwife expert’s massage balm was lovely and soft on my baby’s skin. You only get two free pouches of nappy cream, so I can’t comment that they are better than other brands in the long run.

“I use the cleansing and toner each morning, followed by the moisture balm (which smells absolutely lovely) which makes it an easy routine for me while my baby is in his playpen. The cleanser is nice and simple to use and has a lovely feel to the skin.

“When used with the Liz Earle toner, it makes for a great combination. The routine only takes me five minutes, too. I wouldn’t buy the small bottle of toner again on its own as I noticed little difference in smell or use than supermarket brands, however it’s a great addition to the box.”

The box comes neatly presented and is basically a little treasure trove of goodies. She hasn’t been the only one delighted with it so far. Of the 12 reviews left to date, 10 have awarded the full five stars, one gave four stars and one just two stars.

One of the happy customers shared: “Fantastic gift for a baby shower or to celebrate a baby’s birth. Fantastic value. The candle alone would almost have cost the same as the box.” Another added: “A really caring and fabulous gift for a new mum and baby…. lovely to have something for both of them and amazing value.”

A third said: “I bought this for my daughter who is soon to be a mum. The contents are fabulous and mainly full sizes. Absolutely delighted.” The one negative review to date expected more in the box for the child, saying: “Not a great choice of products for baby.”
