The special symbol can easily go unnoticed by many – but it has a fundamental purpose for staff
I’m a regular Home Bargains shopper because the store makes it easy to pick up lots of day-to-day essentials under one roof at budget prices. I’ve been to many different Home Bargains over the years, but there is one thing I never noticed, until recently.
When shopping in stores, some products have eye-catching Star Buy signs hanging from the shelves – this is meant to indicate a really good deal. Most of the time, you can’t help but have a glance, even if it’s not what you came in for.
But recently, I started noticing a pattern on a few of the signs. Some had star-shaped stickers underneath.
At first, I thought it might have been some sort of special offer on dental products as I spotted it on mouthwash and toothpaste. But then I saw the same sticker on wine, candles and sweets.
I tried to figure out a connection myself as I carried on shopping but nothing seemed to work out. They were all different prices and product types so I was clearly missing something.
At one point, I wondered if I’d just been overthinking it and if it was nothing more than an added bit of decoration to the price tags. So, to find out one way or another, I asked a staff member and what they said made total sense.
They said it wasn’t meant for customers at all. Instead, this secret code is meant for the staff working on the shop floor who stock the shelves throughout the day.
The star symbol means it’s a popular product that stores always restock. Instead of using the space for something else, staff will restock from the back areas or leave the section empty, knowing that a new shipment of the item will likely arrive the next delivery day.
While Home Bargains’s stock is ever-changing, many options remain permanently in the store. Hundreds of stores across the country are filled with a range of items, including home, garden, Star Buys, and more.
If shoppers want something specific, they might have to travel to different shops. In most stores, once stock is gone, it’s gone. Find your nearest Home Bargains store by using the online locator tool here.
