“A masterpiece. Complex, gorgeous, woody, with just a tad bit of sweetness. It makes me feel like I’m the most interesting person in the room”

Cult Beauty shoppers are raving over a ‘masterpiece’ perfume that exudes cool girl energy. Lola at Coat Check is £130 for a 50ml bottle, but first time shoppers can get it for £111 with discount code FIRST15.

At Cult Beauty it also comes with a sample of Discothèque Next to Me or Nothing. Lola at Coat Check opens up with notes of pink pepper, cardamom and grapefruit.

The heart has a unique twist with white chocolate alongside floral notes of jasmine, lily and orris. It then dries down to a base of sandalwood, cedarwood, amber and vetiver.

The scent is inspired by 1992 in New York and the Discotheque website gives a detailed backstory for the namesake Lola. They said: “They came for a secret show and met the girl with secrets. There were whispers on lips from behind velvet ropes, but her name was only uttered in love letters or curses.

“She was Lola. She would take your coat. She would hang it, and slip inside its pocket a small white chocolate, a surprise for 4am.”

“Velvet ropes, spirals of sandalwood smoke, love letters and curses, white chocolates in pockets, a moment of softness, razor-edged nails, tiered chandeliers, a glimpse of the moon high in the sky, a whisper on lips that turns into a 4am surprise.”

For those who aren’t ready to part with over £100, the perfume is also available in an 8ml travel size for £37 directly from the brand. We could see this being a hit with fans of scents like Angels’ Share By Kilian (£210 for 50ml) which is a warm spicy scent that brings together cognac, oak and candied almond for something boozy and alluring.

It would also go down well with those drawn to Maison Margiela’s Jazz Club (£62 for 30ml) which is similarly inspired from a boozy New York environment. Jazz Club has notes of tobacco, rum and pink pepper.

At Cult Beauty, Lola at Coat Check has pulled in glowing reviews, one shopper said: “I’m completely obsessed with this fragrance. It is perfect during the day and feels so sexy I wear it into the night. I can’t stop breathing this in all day long when I’m wearing it. I just love love love it!”

Another called it a ‘masterpiece’ and wrote: “Complex, gorgeous, woody, with just a tad bit of sweetness. It makes me feel like I’m the most interesting person in the room. I couldn’t even count the amount of asks I got both times I’ve worn this.”

Lola at Coat Check has also been called both wonderful and mysterious, with this shopper saying: “This perfume is wonderful. It smells sweet with caramel and vanilla, yet also very dark, mysterious and sophisticated. I think it will perform really well in the heat too. Definitely a gorgeous evening scent!”

One shopper first tried the perfume in a discovery set and promptly bought a larger bottle. They said: “I found this scent through the discovery set and literally fell in love with the scent Lola at Coat Check. It’s the most feminine out of the scents with a rosey top scent mixed with that amber, musky undertone and I think that sweet element of white chocolate and caramel really makes this scent so unique but familiar at the same time.

“I guess we’ve all met a Lola at the cloak room and thought ‘OMG she smells amazing! What is she wearing?!’ At some point in our lives, we’ve all wanted to smell and be as cool as Lola at coat check.”

While there aren’t any negative reviews, it is worth noting that it’s not a traditional gourmand scent that would appeal to fans of Sol de Janeiro and Kayali. Our team fragrance expert Jada Jones has tried this fragrance and said: “This is such a ‘cool girl’ fragrance.

“It has a little sweetness from the white chocolate but I wouldn’t say it’s the sweetness that takes centre stage. It’s woody and spicy, very sexy and has a je ne sais quoi feel to it that I can see being very popular with fans of Glossier You looking for something a little more niche.”
